Adding layers of lighting can change the entire mood of a room. In a room where the lighting is the same throughout, nothing will stand out. Find your focal point and highlight that, it's okay to highlight more than one thing in a room also!
FOCAL POINTS
Make your focal point the anchor to a room. Some focal points might be a fireplace with surrounding lights or a dramatic hood in the kitchen. Regardless of what your focal point is, it should be clear and free from one room to the next. This is why the focal point is typically directly across from the entrance to the room.
PAINTING THE ROOM
Try picking the paint color for a room LAST. You want to have a color for your walls that will compliment everything that will be going into the room. The paint color you chose will literally make or break a room. If it's poorly matched, the room will not be as strong as it could be
